There are two categories under which a student may be eligible:
Low-income or first-generation college students: Low-income status is based on family income levels established by the federal government. First-generation means neither parent (nor guardian) has earned a four-year baccaulaureate degree. Students of any race/ethnicity who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and meet these criteria are encouraged to apply.
Students from groups underrepresented in higher education: Includes African American, Hispanic and Native American undergraduate students enrolled in any major.
In addition to the above criteria, students must also have sophomore standing, a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 and an interest in pursuing a graduate degree.
